Will You Be My Complete Source?

Will You Be My Complete Source?

Oh, how I would love the surprise at the bottom of my cracker jack box-of-a-life to be one person that could be my complete source. But our reality is that this just will never be. It was never intended for me to feed off of and gain sustenance from another human being. Body Life, yes. Codependence? No.

It is so easy to become dependent on and enmeshed with another person. We really want someone to stand in the gap, especially when we are lonely or lost. Who doesn’t want a living, breathing savior in the flesh to solve their emotional and physical needs? But it has been my personal experience that the Lord jealously holds this position for Himself. Jesus wants so badly that we would turn to Him rather than man for our needs.

Jealousy to Be Our Complete Source

Jealousy to Be Our Complete Source
Martha has said, and I can totally agree with her, “I have never met anything but the jealousy of God in my life.” Our God is jealous that He would be our only Source. This doesn’t mean we will be sequestered in isolation. It just means, as I said in my last post, that my focus and gaze is on Him as I interact with others. That is actually what Body Life looks like. Christ is our head and as we focus on Him, we have relationship with one another in the Body.

Our preeminent relational energy is for the Lord, and then He leads us in relationship with others. By this course of action, I am clear of codependence. Actually, others encounter Christ in me rather than me. What a gift! People are able to see an aspect of Jesus through me because my focus is on Him, not them. Imagine if we all lived this way! Christ’s Life would be overflowing all around us.

My Motive: Complete Source

My Motive: Complete Source
I write this post with a little bit of a selfish motivation. We each have an expression of Christ that only we can manifest. Christ in me looks different than Christ in you. Though Christ is One, His expression of Life is unique in us, just as we are unique. I want to experience Christ through you. I want to see an aspect of Him that I can find no where on earth other than through you. In this way, I am continually increasing in knowledge of my Beloved.

You see, it is a gift. It is the best gift I can give and receive. It’s so much greater than mere human interaction; it is Christ expressed and revealed. This is why our focus is so key and so crucial. What I gaze upon is what I usher forth. My focus on Christ assures my presenting of Christ for Him, you, and me. Our multifaceted God expresses His facets through our individual lives. And as we maintain our vision on Christ, He is made known to the world.

To Know Him

That you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and desiring to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God [with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, acquaintance, and recognition].
Colossians 1:10

[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death…
Philippians 3:10 AMPC

In my next post, I will talk about the other side of this coin: How Christ can use our focus on others to save us from ourselves.

Thank you John, this is a critical post for me for TODAY. Your paragraph by the picture…..Christ life is expressed uniquely different in each of us………I never thought of this before your post, my focus on HIM and HIS will ……today has given me courage and encouragement that my walk is in HIS hands. I read further in Colossians 1 to verse 27″To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, WHICH IS CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY”

      • Love that it so spoke to you Sue. It is quite a revelation, so grateful the Lord shared it with me. Blessing you!

What a great insight!- I’ve always thought that the body is just an illustration that we are a unique part of the church- but you expanded that to include the point that the body is encouraged by seeing Christ in each other and that is a motive for relationship… cool…I’m ruminating on this!

      • So glad this spoke to you Arleen. Glad were a part of the same body! Love you.
