Living Unburdened

man holding cross and the world

I’m going to give you a little thing I do. The Lord says, “Cast your burdens on the Lord and He will sustain you… He will never fail you” (1 Pet. 5:7 and 4:19). In the Amplified Bible, it reads, “…casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.”

This is something I learned to do a long time ago. You lie down and get comfortable and breathe deep, which helps your brain (as I now know). And it helps your stress level. You just focus on the Lord, gazing at Him.

And you know how we get bombarded with all our issues! I will lie there and whoops… here comes an upcoming appointment for me to think about. So I put that in an (imaginary) bag and drop it at His feet, and then I go back to Him. Then comes another “Oh my goodness!” about me and I drop that and cast it on Him.

If you practice that long enough, you will begin
to be able to focus on Him, and you will be able
to leave this world and live in the heavenlies.

That’s what I learned by just letting go of everything on this earth that is continually nagging and worrying me, and that seeks to occupy my focus.

I just throw off every thing of this earth: every care, every burden, every fear, every difficulty, every failure, every inadequacy, and I ‘agree with the enemy’ that I am hopeless but for a Savior (Matt. 5:25). We are helpless but for redemption.

We are safe in the Lord’s hands.

We can let go of everything in this world – every relationship and every responsibility, for those moments when we focus on Him alone.  The word “cast” means “hurl” as in hurling a javelin.

You can cast your burdens on Him
because HE IS RESPONSIBLE for everything you are and are not,
and have and do not have… and can’t be.
He’s responsible!

Just throw it all at Him. Maybe you will be inspired to do this regularly… just to take the time to focus on Him. If you keep at it, you will be able to focus on Him in any place, under any circumstance. As the Lord showed me, you will see yourself rising to the heavenly place where you ARE (Eph. 2:6).

And eventually, you will live from the heavens and it will be familiar to you. It is difficult at first, because it is letting go of… YOU.
