God is Playing Me Like an Instrument

I find that those who love God are pliable and malleable in His hands. He is able to move and mold them in accordance to His will and pleasure. I used to be afraid that He couldn’t keep me in His will. Now I know He can move me anywhere He chooses quite amazingly. Why? Because the one who loves God, loves His Will. It is as if God is playing me like an instrument.

How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, Who seek Him with all their heart.
Psalm 119:2 NASB

Playing Me Like An Instrument

Playing Me Like An Instrument
Do you ever find yourself right in the middle of God’s will without purposely going there? I bet you do. You know, those times when you are right where you are supposed to be, when you need to be there, and yet you don’t quite know why you’re there. I describe this as God playing me like an instrument.

Here’s an example of this. I was leaving the gym to go visit a good friend whose mother was unwell. I knew we were going to a nursing facility, but I didn’t know quite where it was. For whatever reason, I drove through a light and through a drugstore parking lot to wind up on an adjacent street. This was not a normal course I would take. When I got over there, I backed the car into a parking spot off the road and called my friend and ask where the facility was. Turned out, I parked in the facility’s parking lot without even knowing it.

This is a very simplistic example of a deeper application, but I wanted to give you a real common visual of a spiritual thing. To further illustrate, here is something I have witnessed numerous times in a friend’s life. One such time was when my friend found herself researching something, not really knowing why. Amazingly we discovered that this information was exactly what was needed to help another friend. Again, this is a very practical example but I think you can see the spiritual application in it.

God Moves Me Like He’s Playing Me Like An Instrument

God Moves Me Like He's Playing Me Like An Instrument
God is able to move us where we need to be, when we need to be there. It’s as if God is playing us like an instrument. And this gives me incredible hope and peace. I like to know that I am malleable in His hands, that I am not resistant to Him, but rather pliable towards Him.

You might say, “Is this just happenstance or is God actively moving me through my life?” I believe He has a lot more control over my circumstances than I have given Him credit for. And whether or not I recognize His maneuvering of me, I am being navigated.

By Design

I believe this is all by design. We are all sheep of His pasture, and God as our good Shepherd leads us. When I was a shepherd, the sheep had no understanding or sometimes even awareness of what I was doing, but I was leading them continually. They might be merely munching on grass but I was guiding their path to my chosen destination. This is the wonder of our God. He causes me to lie down in pastures of green grass; He guides me beside quiet waters. This is because He is good and God, and I am His sheep to do with as He wishes.

Those who love Your law have great peace, And nothing causes them to stumble.
Psalm 119:165 NASB

Here’s an amazing quote by C. S. Lewis that expresses this point from a different angle.

“God made us: invented us as a man invents an engine. A car is made to run on gasoline, and it would not run properly on anything else. Now God designed the human machine to run on Himself. He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn, or the food our spirits were designed to feed on. God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing” (Mere Christianity).

Yes, I believe all is by God’s design, all headed toward his goal of being enjoyed by all as all in all.

To love God is to love His Will…even in ‘what is this?’ & ‘how did I even get here?’ Oh, what it does for our hearts when we see that HE has arranged it all. It can look like I walked myself into a mess, until I realize the Arranger put me there, & the path wasn’t accidental but designed. A sheep can only be led, & in these unknown places we come to this, “I am His sheep to do with as He wishes”. HE is the destination. He puts an ‘inking’ into our heart & we move toward…but… Read more »

Just–wow! A beautiful illustration of how, by just BEING, God lovingly plays us like an instrument in His grand orchestra of the universe!

yes, and sometimes He causes the strings of us to be so taut …. so painfully taut …simply so beautiful music is the result ……re-tuning is not always pleasant or easy but as He runs His fingers across our lives the resulting music is so very precious ……
