Sorrow is the Adult of not Embracing Sovereignty

Having deep sorrow is adult. A child might have sadness, but a true child has no sorrow, only joy. A child doesn’t hold on to things; they release them quickly. Try offending a child and then saying, “I’m sorry.” It is done that moment. But as we age, we can hold on to things and allow it to sour our very countenance. To have endless sorrow is just an indication that I left the child and I’m in the Adamic adult. To be in never-ending sorrow is to live by sense and reason without the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:6). It turns out that sorrow is also self-punishment and playing adult, as opposed to letting God parent me and orchestrate my corrections.

Sorrow and Sovereignty

Here’s the good news: God’s sovereignty swallows up all sorrow, suffering, and evil. In God’s sovereignty there is no evil because His Light has dispelled all darkness. I know this is a mind stretch but I am seeing it to be true. Martha first brought this thought to me and it opened my mind through an explosion. (“Yep, that was the back of my skull…”)

What God allows can cause us momentary sadness. We may not understand the events surrounding a circumstance, but our faith tells us that His plans are good because He is good. We have to live life in openhanded receiving even when not understanding. If I stand as judge, deciding rather than receiving, I will be frustrated and robbed of all joy. In order to hear, you have to position yourself in listening.

The Dance of Sovereignty

Make very sure that you never refuse to listen to God when He speaks! For the God who spoke on earth from Sinai is the same God who now speaks from heaven. Those who heard Him speak His living Word on earth found nowhere to hide, so what chance is there for us to escape if we turn our backs on God and refuse to hear His warnings as He speaks from heaven?

Sovereignty is a dance where God leads. We’re not going to box in circumstances as good or bad. I can only take His hand and follow His lead. He is capable and trustworthy to orchestrate my moves as long as I am not resisting His Sovereign Touch.

Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life, then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will make the answers known to you through Jesus Christ.
Philippians 4:6-7

God intends me to live in the faith that heals with His sovereign touch. As I said in the podcast, “If I can’t embrace the wounding hand of God, I’ll never experience the healing hand of God.” This goes both ways. When I embrace His sovereign touch which has wounded me, I will experience His healing hand of love to resolve my wounds.
