The Word declares that if I save my life, I will lose my life, but if I lose my life, then I gain Life. (See Matthew 10:39, Matthew 16:25, Mark 8:35, Luke 9:24, and John 12:25.) Saving my life is living my life, rather than letting Christ be my Life. What I mean by save my life is that I keep my life, maintain my life, live my life. To lose my life is to let Christ’s Life be my life, which consequentially saves my life. I heard this in the middle of the night and had to write it down. For me, this is the clearest understanding of this scriptures meaning:
If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for Me, you will find it.
Matthew 10:39 NLT
All who seek to live apart from Me will lose it all. But those who let go of their lives for My sake and surrender it all to Me will discover true Life!
Matthew 10:39 TPT
Save My Life
As I have stated in other posts, this scripture has been a banner over my life. The Lord confronted me with this truth early on. It was actually the verse in John, which references love. To love your life is to lose your life. But today with this insight, I understand it more than I ever have. God was always addressing His Life over mine.
I, like everyone, have witnessed the train wreck of being the source of my life. It was like running blindfolded with Crisco on my shoes in the Tea Cup ride at Disney with my hands full of sharp implements. What a hot mess, someone is going to get stabbed. But Jesus gave us His Life to save our life. WOW! I don’t have to save the sinking ship, I have a Life-Preserver!
Don’t Want to Lose My Life
I’m so grateful for the additional light on this. I don’t know if it ministers to you, but it is awe-inspiring to me. It has made my familiar ole scriptures new for me. I love how He can do that. He can make all things new with just a flash of His Presence. He is THE Light! And even well-trod soil can be as fresh as if it was never stepped upon. Just beautiful!
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wants to follow in My footsteps he must give up all right to himself, take up his cross and follow Me. For the man who wants to save his life will lose it; but the man who loses his life for My sake will find it. For what good is it for a man to gain the whole world at the price of his own soul? What could a man offer to buy back his soul once he had lost it?
