God’s Choice in Our Presidential Elections

Print

Let’s take the periscope up to get a view of something particular. In my past two posts about love of the world, I alluded to issues without getting precise or specific. Today I wish to get a little more down and dirty. Why? Because this issue is specifically in my face, begging for my involvement. So if this post happens to strum any of the strings on your personal guitar, then great. If not, I’m writing it to myself about the presidential elections.

You don’t have to be snuggling up by a warm fire with the world to be lovin’ it. Love of the world is more akin to focus rather than love. I can be in outright anger and hatred and still be in love of the world. As I wrote in my last post: what we listen to is what we love. This is why our Heavenly Shepherd needs us to hear His voice and not another’s.

The Presidential Elections and Love of the World

The Presidential Elections and Love of the World
I want to call out the 800-pound gorilla in the room—the presidential elections, debates, and mud slinging. I have had to turn off my access to it because it makes me so exercised. And yesterday I violated my pact with myself and looked under the presidential mayhem covers—egads! I went from zero to sixty in 5.3 seconds. I literally couldn’t get it off my face. All the while, my posts on love of the world were going up. Test…party of one!

I went to the gym and tried to swim it off. Nope, didn’t work. Maybe I could sweat it out in the sauna? In this tinderbox sat a local pastor. I asked him, “Is this whole thing stirring you up, too?” Needless to say, we both got hot from more than just the sauna.

On my way home, I heard the Lord say something. I wish He had said it in the sauna, since the pastor might have been edified, too. This is what I heard: “Your job is to listen for My choice and then stand for My will to be done.” WOW! I don’t have to watch the mud wrestling? I don’t have to let it stain my soul? Nope, all I have to do is listen to the King who puts every leader in place, and then stand for who He says is His choice. Again, WOW!

Imagine! I don’t have to sully my soul with the most ridiculous presidential campaign I have EVER witnessed. I can simply listen to my Shepherd and fellowship with Him. I don’t have to lose my gaze or peace; I can stay focused on Him. And until I can live where it doesn’t enmesh me to even hear about it, I can listen to His choice and know whatever it might look like, God still WINS!

The Results of the Presitential Elections

The Results of the Presitential Elections
Again this post is for me. I wish I had asked that pastor, “How are you going to guide your flock through this mess?” Maybe he would have had an amazing answer. But I know I am going to direct my personal flock into the arms of the Shepherd. “Hear His choice and stand with His will.” Regardless of how the parties may slander each other or the opponents. Inspite of how the media may wishes to corral us. Or even how much we wish to exert our own personal wishes on this election. At the end of the day, on November 8th, we will witness God’s choice in our elected officials.

Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.

John, the other morning as I was starting my day my mind was being flooded with various posts and political clips I had got sucked into the night before. It was when I was quiet and actually not wanting to think on those things that they flooded my mind as it tried to process it all as a good mind does. The Lord spoke to me that He wants my imagination. What I understood was – to be jealous over my mind and heart, be disciplined in what I allow in so that He can have my imagination. Instead of… Read more »

‘“Your job is to listen for My choice and then stand for My will to be done.”’

Our only action regardless of the subject and choices at hand.

At our state capital prayer rally with Franklin Graham, he said that he has zero confidence in the democratic party, but quickly added: “before you republicans start high-fiving each other, I also have zero confidence in the republican party.” The only confidence he stressed was Almighty God and His perfect will. Voting was a topic second to prayer and confession of national, family and personal sin, only because 30,000,000 evangelical Christians did not vote in the last presidential election.
Thank you, John . . . this was not just for you.
