Health is like a dipstick which reveals the level of our faith in God’s Lordship and Sovereignty.
There’s nothing I know that more effectively reveals my faith in His Lordship and Sovereignty than my health issues. Health crises can stand in the face of my faith, screaming doubts. “Does God truly care? If He does, why is He letting this happen to me? Doesn’t He care about my pain? Is this just a test? What if I don’t hear Him correctly and I permanently hurt myself or worse, die? Am I needlessly doing things to support my health when they mean nothing? If He is Lord, then why can’t He just keep my body?” The list of doubts goes on and on. But when it comes to our life, health can become an in-your-face crisis.
My Faith, My Body, a Dipstick…OH MY
I can’t avoid the din of my body’s needs. You remember my post where I gave the litany of our bodies’ daily requirements? It’s endless, because when it comes to health, my body’s voice attempts to compete with God’s. And this is Satan’s scheme. If the devil can get me believing in symptoms rather than the Lord’s voice, I am sunk!
My health is a dipstick gauging my faith in God as my Father and Shepherd. If I can faith Him with my health life, I am more likely to faith Him with everything. “Is He truly Lord? Is He sovereign over my life?” Health is a litmus test revealing to me just how much faith I have. It’s an up close and personal encounter with my faith level. Will I believe God or…doctors, symptoms, medicines and supplements, my awareness of my body, etc.
My Faith, My Health
I am not promoting “Name it, claim it!”-faith to health or to abandon doctors and healthy practices altogether. This would be presumptuous and foolhardy. Living by His voice, as I have said in my recent posts on health, is the only way I can be shepherded. “My sheep hear My voice, and follow” (John 10:27). It is only faith that pleases God and faith is in Him and what we hear Him say.
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1 NASB
Martha and I will be doing some podcasts about health, faith, and the voice of God in the very near future. Hope you will be able to hear them and they might help you, too.
