Deep Secret

You know, there are many books out there offering to reveal the GREAT secrets of amazing mysteries that will make me more handsome, richer, increase my virility, give me the ability to command a room, and the list goes on. There’s even a book that has sold more than 19 million copies called “The Secret” – it’s a self-help book on positive thinking that results in desired life change. Essentially all of these books promise the maximizing of ME for my complete fulfillment. Well, today I want to begin to share a deep secret Christ is revealing to me—it’s the true secret of life’s ultimate fulfillment! Yep, I want to reveal the meaning of life that will give you eternal joy, deepest satisfaction, and just possibly cure most of what “ails ya.” It’s the true secret of lasting fulfillment and it’s the only way to experience a living satisfaction. So let’s dive in…

Love is the holy grail of mankind’s pursuit. Every other attainment – money, fame, power, position, possession, etc. – is just a false stepping-stone toward what we think will give us love; or possibly worse, something posing as love itself which isn’t love at all. But there is a Love we can pursue that does give true intimacy, and it’s so much higher than our manic scampering about to get it for self.

It’s clear that the above statement refers to “Christ’s love.” After all, only in Christ is true intimacy found, right? This is absolutely true. But I want to open up something more that I’m currently seeing in my testimony—revelation the Lord is pouring out in this story that’s been moving like a meandering brook. What I thought was going to be a post or two is turning out to be a novella.  (I pray it’s enjoyable!) And please let me reiterate a statement I made in one of those posts: “This worship wasn’t for me nor was it about me, but it completely included me.”

Okay, so my question is: Can I be fulfilled within His fulfillment? I believe the answer is YES. What’s more, I have the utmost confidence that in His fulfillment, I have greater reward than that which is found by seeking my own fulfillment. Yes, I believe with all my heart that because I’m lost in Him, my reward is so much greater than just mere satisfaction when He is the One fulfilled.

This goes counter to everything, in every way, that is set up in our human systems. The world’s system is literally laid out for me to seek fulfillment and gain satisfaction for myself. It’s actually set up for me to obtain joy. Whatever senses I’m trying to satisfy, there’s a full color palette set in place to help me achieve it. Visual, auditory, culinary or sensual exhilaration, you name it – all of these can be fulfilled and satisfied by me. But am I really satisfied?

What I propose is that because I died, was buried and was then resurrected with Christ, my fulfillment is now brought about when He is fulfilled. Self-satisfaction is no longer truly satisfying. My life is with Him, seated in the heavenlies, and now my only satisfaction is when He is satisfied. Is this what it means to live out “not I but Christ?”

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Galatians 2:20 NLT

In my next posts, I explore this mystery as best He reveals it to me.  I intend to delve into these deep waters in response to Christ’s invitation.

“What I propose is that because I died, was buried and was then resurrected with Christ, my fulfillment is now brought about when He is fulfilled. Self-satisfaction is no longer truly satisfying.” Wow, John, this is confirming what I’m hearing in Matthew – Ch 6: “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done…” – this is not a prayer for me, it’s for HIM; it’s asking about HIM…asking about the advancement of HIS Kingdom. And in Ch 7 where Jesus talks about asking, seeking, knocking and if we keep on, we’ll receive, etc. Yes, this is a promise and it’s true,… Read more »
