Just Behind My Eyes

I was sitting there Sunday morning asking the Lord to write a post. I had nothing to write but we needed one written for today. So I sat still and waited for Him. Then I felt I was to open some files on my desktop. While thumbing through these, I found a post I started and never completed. It was about an experience of “Not I, but Christ” behind my eyes. Here is what I wrote:

Just Behind My Eyes

Just Behind My Eyes
“I was driving home from swimming and looking at the beautiful rolling green fields of the North Georgia Mountains. And all of a sudden, I was hit with the reality that Jesus Christ was looking through my eyes. That He was gazing upon His creation through them. He was looking about His property and using my eyes to do it. I was a vessel for His taking in the lay of His land. I felt His presence just behind my eyes like heat and all I could do was weep. It’s such an awesome privilege to be His chosen vessel to be used to view His handiwork. And even as I write this, my eyes still feel somewhat odd—almost numb.

God indwells us to touch His world about us. When we live in the resurrected life, we’re no longer living in and for ourselves; we’re simply in Him. Then it’s Him touching our earth from heaven through our bodies. We’re seated with Him in heaven, and now it’s His touch, His sight, His smell, His tasting, and His hearing all through us, as us, in Him. WOW!”

This is one of those difficult realities to have faith in. It’s Him not me?! I feel so alive! Yet He says that for me to live is Christ, and not me. This pushes every doubt button in my body but He says it, so it must be true. The crucified life is a life free from self and filled with Christ. And the reason for this is that Christ can be my life to increase His Kingdom in this world. Though He doesn’t need me, He uses me. Where all my work and efforts amass nothing good, His life in me brings His rule and reign into my world.

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Gal 2:20 ESV

For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Philippians 1:21

For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
Colossians 3:4

Sounds almost surreal. But, as you state…”He says it, so it must be [is] true.” Yes, “WOW!”
Bless you John for the reminder of how much He loves – even me. Bless Him for leading you to share this.
