Perspective: Viewpoint, standpoint, outlook, view, perception, side, angle, take, evaluation, assessment; a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something.
It seems I am seeing most everything in the light of that word lately – perspective. We have been traveling through some unchartered, rough waters lately. Circumstances are changing rapidly, calling for fresh surrender, prayers, revelation and wisdom. And it’s not just the circumstances that are quickly changing, it is the atmosphere—the emotional and spiritual state of being as well as the physical, touchable realm.
Stuck in My Own Perspective
Too often I assess things according to what I see right in front of me in this physical world. I react in light of that and find myself bound by what seems to be real. I am caught in my own viewpoint, my own narrow perspective, and it is inevitably a dark place, a place of unbelief and defeat. And the boundaries of my evaluation seal the door of my self-inflicted prison from the inside and lock God’s purpose and power out. But because He is my Shepherd and I His ever forgetful and wandering sheep, He breaks in with His Word. Through a thought, a person or even a blog (!), God draws me back into His reality, His perspective, and the triumph of His Life and Kingdom. He illuminates the darkness with His view and will, and I am changed.
2 Corinthians 4:6 NKJV
For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Changed by Perspective
Many times when I read this blog, I so identify with John and Jennifer and Martha’s journeys, and I am changed. In a moment, I am changed. My circumstances don’t change, but my view does – how and what I see. Simply put, my perspective is changed. The Holy Spirit turns on the light and I see through His eyes. I see how He regards a situation – His perspective. It’s just like when Elisha’s servant, who was paralyzed with fear, cried out. “Elisha prayed and his eyes were opened to see the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” Now, that’s Reality! “To believe the impossible one must first see the invisible” (from Kingdom Dynamics, Spirit Filled Bible, 2 Kings 6:8-17 NKJV). He saw through God’s perspective, God’s eyes. Amazing! I am lifted out of this earthly realm into the invisible, heavenly realm, into the realm of Reality.
And always, always when His perspective captures me, repentance follows and worship rises. His faith ensues. His exquisite, triumphant viewpoint decimates my pitiful fleshly view. “He always leads in triumph.” His perspective takes me from that awful, hopeless despair to hope, from my fretting and fear to His promise and faith and even rest. In truth, He delivers me once again from death to Life! Perspective, from Whose point of view I see, is everything.
Ephesians 3:20-21 AMPC
Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]—To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it).
