Reflecting back on my recent posts about Kundalini spirit and the wide spread spiritual error in Christendom, I wanted to bring some more balance to this point. I know on the other side, there are many “Christian” denominations out there that negate the power and presence of the Spirit. They say that the gifts were for the first century church but now the Spirit is not available. And if you ever mention speaking in tongues, you will be run out on a rail. The fact is, they prefer their control to the unpredictability of the Spirit. And the Will of God is completely unpredictable.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT
In the Spirit
The problem with this is that you can’t have Christ without the Spirit of Christ, which is the Holy Spirit. I will not have control as I surrender to Him, but without this transaction, I have Christ in name only. Long story short, if I resist the Spirit, I resist both the Father and the Son, too.
The Spirit is the Spirit of Christ. His movements are more real than anything we see. The Spirit is our reality and walk with God. Christ left the Comforter not just as a placeholder until He returned. God continues to perform signs and wonders and miracles as He did through Christ. It is foolish to resist the personhood of the Godhead functioning with us today. God with us is now the Holy Spirit.
No Spirit, No Christ
This resistance is not uncommon; people in Jesus’ time resisted Him as Lord. And this continues with the same type of people today who resist the Spirit. I can resist God in a multitude of ways. I can prefer the confines of my liturgy to the flow of the Spirit of Christ, or I can attribute to the Spirit my “super-spiritual” flight of fancy. Either way, I am silencing God in preference for self. Control and order or wild soulish flailing both resist His actual Will and Ways.
The Holy Spirit of God has sealed you in Jesus Christ until you experience your full salvation. So never grieve the Spirit of God or take for granted His holy influence in your life.
Ephesian 4:30 TPT
We can’t have Christ without the Spirit of Christ. I may name Jesus as my Source, but without the Holy Spirit, it’s just a label and not a reality.
No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.
1 Corinthians 2:11 NLT
Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
Matthew 12:32 NIV
Amen
You’ve brought the Spirit’s urging to prayer. “Do not quench, suppress or subdue the Holy Spirit.” The liberty that comes by the Spirit is for the Spirit. He’s extravagant, radical, powerfully practical. I’m in awe of Him all over again. The Holy Spirit is movement, breath, filling, pouring. We receive, believe, we are led, filled. He searches, pierce’s, purifies, comforts, discomforts, divides, joins, draws, enables, writes on hearts. The Holy Spirit is supernatural. We leave all, and let Him be Who He is, let Him be all and do all. Surrendered: willing to be beggar and babbler in the eyes… Read more »
That was awesome, John! Reminds me of Galatians 3 — “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?” I’ve also heard that this (neglecting the Holy Spirit — His person and ministry) clouds the issue of the revelation of the Word of God as being insufficient and incomplete. On the… Read more »
It’s an epidemic, isn’t it Pauline, but the Lord will prevail. He will have His Will and Way. Thanks for the scripture! Fits perfectly! Have a great Thanksgiving! Love you.
“They prefer their control to the unpredictability of the Spirit” OUCH! I never saw it that way. If we want to move with the Spirit we have to do things HIS way. Love you folks. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Kinda His Way or the highway, huh? Love you Big Wanda, I pray you have an amazing Thanksgiving!!
John, I appreciate so much what you have written. In my many years I’ve been a controller, a flailer and much in between. I ache for those stuck in such error, refusing the light God so clearly offers and resisting God as God. You’ve written clearly, concisely, cogently what must be said yet rarely is–yet another work of the Holy Spirit.
Thank you Douglas! Yes, there is another spirit at work but thankfully we are following the Spirit of Christ and seeing His amazing Life in our lives. Love you Douglas, have a wonderful Happy Thanksgiving.
‘Control and order or wild soulish flailing both resist His actual Will and Ways.‘ I guess I’m old enough to have (many times over) experienced both types of choosing selfish ways over His ways. I once read of a great preacher in England who, during the revivals of the late 1800s, arrived to speak at a packed hall. People were standing outside by doors and windows just to hear him! And for nearly 3 hours, he did not speak. People began weeping with repentance! It was entirely of the Holy Spirit. Glory to God, may we choose to let Him… Read more »
