Trying to Control the World Around You

Print

We can’t control the world around us, we can only choose our response to our world. This is a tremendously freeing position, liberating in fact. As long as I determine to control the uncontrollable situations in life, I will not only frustrate myself but rob myself of all joy. But if I focus on Jesus, the One who has ALL control, I can choose my response based on Faith in Him and His Ways.

Control the Uncontrollable

Control the Uncontrollable
In our world we have many uncontrollables. For many of us, 2020 has actually held many records of uncontrollability. We have had one crisis after the next, all of which have enticed us towards fear or fury, sometimes both at the same time. I wish I could tell you I have skated across them all with a grand display of faith but alas, NO! I’ve experienced the bumps and jolts just as most of us.

I have witnessed the most fearful amongst us are those trying to control the uncontrollable. So if I am not supposed to control life’s circumstances, what am I asked to do?  I have learned that the Controller of ALL situations is worthy of my trust. Having faith that He is working all things together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). My job, as it relates to this scripture, is to love Him. I’m not called to control or force situations to my will, I am called to love the One with ALL the power.

Entangling myself in situations is far too tempting. I can mount up on my opinions like a crusader in a yankee second. But Jesus is asking me to yield, trust, and love. This doesn’t mean I squelch my heart and feelings, in fact, if you have noticed most controllers control even their emotions. So often entering love allows me to feel and express my emotions while not being controlled by them.

Not Entangled

Not Entangled
I always remember David’s phrase in Psalms 131,
I don’t concern myself with matters too great or too awesome for me to grasp. And to be perfectly honest, most things are far too great and awesome for me. My mandate is to love the Lord with all my heart, and with all my soul, and with all my strength, and with all my mind; and my neighbor as yourself, which is actually more than enough to keep me busy.

In the pandemic of chaos and crises I am purposing to not be taken in. Oh, it is a fight! Much of our world begs our engagement to the exclusion of our relationship with Christ. But we are called to love not control. Not that our Father doesn’t want our involvement because we are being trained to rule and reign, but we do not have the burden to decided and manipulate. This is freeing! Our rule and reign comes out of love not control.

So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose.

Thanks for sharing !!
I was so irrated about a BIG circumstance where I have no control.. and while praying, the question rose about believing that God’s sovereign.. yes Lord, i believe.. so are you willing, no matter how this situation turns out to still Thank Me?
That really spoke to me… this, as all circumstances are not mine to control, but to trust in Him. What a relief!!
