Can You Be Saved Without a Lord?

Print

I have heard the question can you be saved if Jesus is not your Lord? Something I do know for a fact is that you can’t be His disciple without embracing His Lordship. Also you can’t be a brother or sister of Christ and not be obedient to the Will of God. The Gospels clearly show this.

Jesus asked, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” Then he pointed to his disciples and said, “Look, these are my mother and brothers. Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother!”
Matthew 12:48-50 NLT

Saved by a Lord

Saved by a Lord
Living in obedience to the Will of God is a prerequisite to being in the family of God. Some people find this to be hard language. I would say if you’re looking for a loophole to indulge your will rather than obeying the Will of God, you possibly might not be truly saved.

This is not a hard fast rule, because the struggle of the will is relationally worked out with God. I am born again and then the Spirit of Christ works Jesus’ Life through my life. He does this through correcting and challenging and leading me in the Way. My perfect performance is not required to be saved. But Christ’s living out His perfection in me is the realization of my salvation. Salvation is our being saved from our self-life into Christ’s Life.

Now I know salvation is by grace alone, but look at the seeds presented in the parables. The fact remains that most of the “seeds sown” failed to thrive. Whether they were being choked out by weeds or perished on the rocks, there are prerequisites to thriving in the garden of the Lord.

Salvation and Lordship

Salvation and Lordship
You know I didn’t even realize this was a debatable topic until one of the editors of The Sovereign Touch brought it up. I assumed that if you didn’t need a Lord you probably didn’t see the necessity of salvation either. Salvation it’s not just choosing the right door from the many life choices. It’s not a merit badge, or a little spit and polish to make me look better or act nicer. Salvation is the process of being saved from all that is me into all that is He. It isn’t intended to be a simple ticket out of the punishment from hell. But inevitably some will use it as such. Christ came to purchase something so much beyond judgment release—“A get out of jail free card!“

So semantically salvation may be the incorrect word, but I do know that we are never going to be a disciple without embracing His Lordship. And I wonder if what we are witnessing as the state of the church is not part of this very distinction.

My question would be, what happened to all those seeds that failed to thrive? In context the seeds were salvation. What happened to them? I think the consequences of a wrong choice are just too great in this life, as well as in the life to come.

Christ came to give us the treasure of His own Life, not just so that we would escape hell, but so that we would truly live. If you had a benefactor who paid for all that you need to live this life victoriously, why would you settle to trek it out on your own? God have mercy on us all!

“Salvation is the process of being saved from all that is me into all that is HE”. Oh I love this, and I would add that until I saw how completely wretched I was, HE didn’t have a chance to come in. I also love your word, :”treasure” to describe HIS own life. HE is the “DIRECTOR” of the direction of my life. Don’t live it perfectly but HE is in charge to give me road blocks to change at HIS desire!!!! My NEW LIFE is best its ever been, challenging, adventurous but the difference is the goal: to please… Read more »
